KARACHI: Former president of Pakistan and PML-N loyalist Mamnoon Hussain was laid to rest in DHA Phase-VIII graveyard on Thursday.

Mamnoon Hussain passed away in Karachi on Wednesday night after a prolonged illness.

His funeral prayers were offered at DHA’s Sultan Masjid after Asr from where his body was taken under defined protocol of the former president to the graveyard.

Senior leader of PML-N Karachi division Nasiruddin Mahmood said that key party leaders including former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Ahsan Iqbal landed in the city on Thursday afternoon specially to attend the funeral and flew back to Islamabad later in the night.

The two leaders also laid a floral wreath on the grave of the former president on behalf of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and party president Shehbaz Sharif.

Senior party leaders including former Sindh governor Mohammad Zubair, Senator Khawaja Qutubuddin, Ali Akbar Gujjar and Naeem Akhtar Arain also attended the funeral.

Senior leaders of PPP, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan, Jamaat-i-Islami and Pak-Sarzameen Party attended the funeral where a large number of people from legal fraternity, business community and civil society were also there.

Mamnoon Hussain had served as the 12th president of Pakistan between September 2013 and September 2018 replacing Asif Ali Zardari and was succeeded by Dr Arif Alvi.
