KARACHI: A Filipino woman was found murdered in Clifton on Wednesday, police said.

Area SHO Pir Shabbir Haider said that the body of 32-year-old Sheela was found inside a flat in Upper Gizri by another Filipino woman, who lived in a flat in the same building.

She told police that the victim had been living alone for the past seven months and was a cardiac patient.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where doctors told investigators that she was strangled to death as they found bruises and broken shoulder bones.

The SHO said that she was married but reportedly got separated from her husband recently. She was associated with a private firm which provides foreign women as domestic help in the metropolis.

Police say a man and woman were gunned down in Noor Khan Goth in the name of so-called honour

A murder case was registered on the complaint of an official of the consulate general of the Philippines.

Another officer, who wished not to be named, said that the victim had approached the consulate as she wanted to return to her homeland but owing to Covid-related restrictions she could not travel abroad.

Couple killed for ‘honour’

A man and a woman were shot dead in what police described as an attack in the name of so-called honour in Sohrab Goth on Wednesday.

The police said that Ghulam Rasool, 40, and Shahida Gul, 35, were killed in the latter’s home in Noor Khan Goth.

The bodies were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for completing medico-legal formalities.

Sohrab Goth SHO Mehboob Elahi said that Rasool, a cattle trader, had a relationship with Gul, a widow and mother of five, for the past seven years.

He said that the woman originally hailed from Khairpur while the man hailed from Shikarpur. He had two wives and children.

The police came to know that their relatives were not happy over their friendship.

The SHO said her elder son had left home after developing differences with her mother and his whereabouts were not known for the past three to four years.

Another Nadra official held

The Federal Investigation Agency on Wednesday claimed to have arrested one more official of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) in its ongoing probe into issuance of four million “fake” computerised national identity cards (CNICs).

An FIA spokesperson identified the held suspect as Abdul Aziz Abbasi, who worked as a data entry operator at Nadra’s mega centre in Defence.

He said that private persons Mohammad Amin and Meraj Faheemuddin were also arrested.

Suspect Amin had obtained a CNIC on the basis of fake documents by impersonating himself as a Pakistani national in connivance with Nadra officials and agent Faheemuddin for Rs30,000.

A total of 13 suspects including Nadra officials have so far been arrested in connection with the FIA probe.
