MANSEHRA: Central leader of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl and religious scholar Ghulam Nabi Shah died after a protracted ailment on Saturday night.

Mr Shah, who contested the National Assembly elections twice on JUI-F ticket, was admitted to a private health facility in Abbottabad last month after his condition deteriorated due to prostate disease.

A huge crowd attended his funeral prayers in Thakara stadium.

Former federal minister Sardar Mohammad Yusuf, former senators Gen retired Salahuddin Tirmizi, Hadaytullah Shah and JUI-F central general secretary Maulana Amjad Lahori were also in attendance.

VACCINATION DRIVE: Mansehra stands atop the eight districts of the Hazara division for vaccination of citizens against Covid-19.

“The government had tasked us with administering as many as 4,000 people daily, but we crossed the target and stood first across Hazara division,” deputy commissioner Dr Qasim Ali Khan told reporters on Sunday.

He said there was massive rush at the vaccination centres because of an effective sensitisation campaign launched by his administration.

He said 29 centres, including two mass vaccination points, were established in the district, adding government employees were also being given jabs. He said mobile teams were also visiting different departments for vaccination of employees.

The daily coronavirus vaccination report of Hazara obtained by Dawn revealed that government has fixed a daily target of 17,000 doses for the division, including 4,000 jabs each for Mansehra and Abbottabad, 3,000 for Haripur, 2,000 for Battagram, 1,000 each for Torghar, Upper Kohistan, Lower Kohistan and Kolai-Palas.

TAKE OATH: Local MPA Babar Saleem Swati administered oath to the newly-elected office-bearers of Anjum-i-Patwarian and Qanoongoyan at a ceremony on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Swati urged the members of the body to ensure better service delivery to people.
