KHYBER: A blast inside a house in Landi Kotal on Tuesday killed five persons, including a woman and her three children, and injured five other minors.

Rescue 1122 officials said wife of Shafeeq Afridi, the house owner, and her three children lost their lives on the spot while another teenage boy later succumbed to injuries in hospital.

They said five more children, two girls among them, were injured in the blast. They were shifted to a Peshawar hospital with four of them in critical condition.

Local police officials said children of Shafeeq Afridi had brought home an unexploded mortar from outside and were trying to dismantle the device at the open compound of their house when it exploded with a bang.

They said a bomb disposal squad was later sent to the affected house where they found some more explosive material which they detonated. The police have registered a case into the incident.
