LAHORE: The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Teaching Staff Association on Wednesday protested for grant of technical and engineering allowance to engineers working in different universities.

The UET-TSA office-bearers and teachers of other technical and engineering institutes of the province gathered outside the press club and launched a protest.

TSA president Dr Amjad Hussain, general secretary Dr Asif Rafiq, Punjab FAPUASA president Dr Abdul Sattar Malik and others were present.

The protesters were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans to demand allowance.

Addressing the protesters, Mr Hussain demanded that the Punjab government give the teachers of engineering universities technical allowance as provided to engineers of other departments.

He said the government had provided technical allowance to the engineers of communication and works, irrigation, public health engineering, local government, agriculture, telecommunication, civil development, planning and development and mines departments. “We will continue to protest until the government provides them with the allowance.”

He said if the government did not accept their demands they would extend the protest to other cities of the province.

He said they could also boycott different administrative committees set up in universities and later would also hold a sit-in outside Chief Minister Usman Buzdar’s house.
