KARACHI: Dust storm/thunderstorm with moderate to heavy showers are expected to hit most parts of Sindh on Friday, except Karachi, a Met department official stated on Thursday.

“Karachi is likely to have drizzle in some parts as happened on Thursday under the current system penetrating into lower and central parts of the country,” said the official, Sardar Sarfaraz, adding that interior parts of Sindh were expected to have moderate to heavy showers.

The department recorded 60mm rain in Jacobabad, 14mm in Rohri, 12mm in Moenjodaro, 8mm in Larkana, 7mm in Tharparkar, 2mm in Badin and traces in Padidan.

The maximum and minimum temperature recorded in Karachi was 36.8 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius, respectively.

In the next 24 hours, weather in Karachi is expected to be hot and humid with chances of dust storm, thunderstorm and light rain with maximum temperature ranging from 36 to 38 degrees Celsius.

According to the Met office, dust storm, thunderstorm or rain with a few moderate or heavy falls, especially in Dadu, Sukkur, Larkana, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Ghotki, Hyderabad Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Tharparkar, Badin and Thatta districts, are expected till June 19.

Hot spells in central and upper Sindh will subside.

The department has warned that loose-structured huts and billboards may sustain damage due to dust storm/windstorm.

“Low-lying areas in Badin, Thatta, Hyderabad, Umerkot, Thar, Dadu, Sukkur and Larkana districts may face waterlogging/inundation at times due to occasional heavy showers,” it said.
