Workshop on mental health planned

PESHAWAR, Oct 25: A workshop on mental health problems among earthquake survivors will be held on Wednesday. It has been organized by the Department of Psychiatry of the post-graduate medical education section of the Lady Reading Hospital.

The basic aim of arranging the workshop is to update knowledge and techniques of psychiatrists to enable them to provide effective help to mentally disturb survivors so that they can live a normal life again.

Renowned psychiatrists will speak on various aspects of the issue in the workshop. Topics like symptomology of post-traumatic stress disorders, screening instruments for detecting psychiatric morbidity and pharmological management will be discussed in the workshop. Similarly, psycho- social rehabilitation and management of the affected children will be specially focused.

The workshop is an effort to pay attention to a serious problem in the wake of the Oct 8 disaster which has caused enormous psychological problems among earthquake survivors.
