Human trafficking continues

RAWALPINDI, Oct 25: Human trafficking continues unabated as 550 Pakistani illegal immigrants, held in Oman’s jails, were waiting for deportation, official source said.

He said on an average 43 illegal immigrants enter into Oman daily. The situation calls for urgent measure to curb the menace of human trafficking to Oman as it is earning bad name for Pakistan.

Pakistani ambassador to Oman has recently requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take up the issue with the Ministry of Interior, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and take some immediate steps to stop the influx of illegal immigrants to Oman, the source said.

The source said the 1834 Pakistani illegal immigrants had been deported to Pakistan through two ships Muhammadi Doe and Al-Arabe on October 10, 2005.

Whereas the last batch of Pakistani illegal immigrants was deported on August 27, 2005, and the total illegal immigrants arrested by Omani authorities since August were 1884, the source said.
