KASUR: Three members of a family drowned while four others suffered injuries on Saturday as the car they were riding plunged into a roadside pond near Nizampura village on Habibabad-Chunian Road in Chunian police precincts.

According to police, Muhammad Asif of Keetan Kalan (Chunian) along with his father Muhammad Iqbal, aunt Naziran Bibi and relatives Imran, Azeem, Jamil Ahmed and Sharifan Bibi was on his way to Pattoki. Near Nizampura, the overloaded car overturned while saving a motorcycle and fell into a pond.

Rescue 1122 and locals took out the car from the pond. Asif, his father Iqbal and aunt Naziran died while the injured were rushed to THQ Hospital. Jamil and Sharifan were discharged from the hospital after first aid while Imran and Azeem were said to be stable. Police are looking into the matter.

ASI BOOKED: Mandi Usmanwala police on Saturday registered a case against its assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and arrested him for alleged torture of a citizen.

The district police officer took action after a video of the torture went viral on social media.

Reports said around one and a half years back, ASI Naveed arrested garbage picker Anwar, suspecting him a motorcycle thief. When ASI Naveed was interrogating him, a ‘tout’ in the police station made a video and tried to blackmail the official.

The video went viral as the ASI and other officials at the police station had some differences.

Some days back, Mandi Usmanwala police released a drug pusher after allegedly receiving bribe. The ‘deal’ was made through the tout.

The tout allegedly gave money to a police official but ‘ignored’ Naveed that caused rift between officials. The issue led to an exchange of words after which the video was leaked.

Following the orders of DPO Imran Kishwar, police arrested ASI Naveed, put him behind bars and lodged a criminal case against him under sections 155-C of Police Order and 341 of PPC.
