HYDERABAD: Robbers entered a private bank’s branch within the jurisdiction of the Bhitai Nagar police station on Thursday-Friday night, killed its guard and took away around Rs6.5 million.

According to the police, guard Zeeshan Khaskheli, a resident of Qasimabad, was found strangulated in the branch.

Initial reports had suggested that an amount of around Rs8m had been taken away but later the Hyderabad SSP put the missing amount at around Rs6.5m.

He said the robbers apparently entered the branch via its ATM’s gate which showed that someone, ostensibly guard Khaskheli, opened the door for them from inside the branch. He said that a few suspects were being interrogated on suspicion that someone within the branch might have been in league with the robbers.

The SSP revealed that lockers were opened with keys to take away money.

Police have detained three bank employees and two guards.

According to the SSP, the robbers took away the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and even a gadget fitted underneath a table.
