RAWALPINDI: A mobile phone trader was robbed of Rs7.5 million by three unidentified robbers at the busy Bank Road on Thursday night.

The incident has sparked concern among traders of Singapore Plaza.

They have urged police to ensure effective police patrolling as they have been feeling insecure due to the surge in street crime in the cantonment area.

Abdul Sattar, carrying a cash bag, was heading towards his car parked outside the plaza.

As he got close to his car, he found three unidentified people around him. Sattar was held at gunpoint by the three men, who threatened to kill him if the cash bag was not given up.

They snatched the bag with Rs7.5 million and sped off on their motorcycles.

Immediately after the incident happened, the emergency police were alerted but robbers remained uncaught.

Munir Baig, president of the Mobile Phone Association, told reporters that he had asked the police several times to assign police patrolling on Bank Road, including Singapore plaza but his efforts could not be materialised.

He said that the traders of Singapore plaza are feeling insecure and demanded the arrest of culprits till Sunday otherwise, they will stage protests on Bank Road and Saddar.

Police said the CCTV images of the incident are being obtained to identify the culprits.

Meanwhile, a lady doctor lost Rs150,000 after some unidentified burglars broke into her clinic in her absence, in Sadiqabad area.
