Two policemen on polio duty killed in Mardan

MARDAN: Unknown attackers shot dead two policemen providing security to a polio team in Palodheray locality of Rustam tehsil here on Wednesday.

The slain police personnel were identified as Syed Raza Ali Shah and Shakir. One of them died instantly, and the other succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to a nearby hospital.

The officials said the slain personnel were deployed on the security of polio team and were returning on their bike after duty when they were targeted. The attackers escaped the area after the incident.

A contingent of police reached the spot soon after the attack and cordoned off the area to track down the attackers.

Later, the funeral prayers of the martyred police officials were offered in the police lines.

The funeral was attended by provincial police chief Dr Sanaullah Abbasi, civil and military officers, the DIG and commissioner Mardan division and deputy commissioner Mardan.
