KARACHI, Oct 24: Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqi has ordered immediate arrest of members of the ACLC team which opened fire on and killed the husband of MPA Asma Sherwani on Super Highway early on Sunday morning.

The minister also constituted an inquiry team headed by DIG (operations), Hyderabad, Mazhar Shaikh.

The team will submit its report in three days.

On the minister’s order, all five members of the ACLC team were taken into custody while Motorway Police has also been involved in the investigation.

Mr Siddiqi said that any comment on the incident before the completion of the inquiry would be premature. However, he added, police did not have power to shoot anyone.

Our staff reported adds from Hyderabad: A police source said on Monday that four ACLC personnel, Inspector Qasan Ben, ASI Asim and two head constables, were in custody of the Lunikot police.

The source said that six men of the Motorway police, including a senior patrol officer, were also interrogated and their statements were recorded by the inquiry committee. Statements of some other people who were at the place of the shooting in which Mr Abdul Aziz was killed, were also recorded.

The police source said that the investigating officers were trying to find out who was responsible for starting the firing.

“We are basically concerned with the fact as to who is primarily responsible for the incident,” said the source.

The source added that reports about an encounter with police would also be taken into consideration.

Furqan, the friend of the deceased, who was driving the car, told the family of Mr Aziz and local MQM leader that he did not stop the car because the personnel were in civvies and driving a private car.

Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s Convener Dr Imran Farooq, Saleem Shahzad and MQM Coordination Committee’s Deputy Convener Dr Farooq Sattar expressed condolences with Raees Ahmed, brother of Mr Aziz.
