Spinner Irfan has Islamabad reeling

Published October 24, 2005

ISLAMABAD, Oct 23: Islamabad were facing the prospects of follow-on after being rocked by Karachi Harbour’s off-spinner Irfanuddin, who captured 6-57 in an impressive haul, in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Silver League match at the Diamond Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Irfan’s guile left the Islamabad batsmen clueless and the side were a precarious 156-8 at the close needing another 102 runs to avoid the ignominy of follow-on.

Only Afaq Rahim and Sufyan Munir put up some resistance in scoring 36 apiece after Karachi had posted 407 having resumed at the overnight score of 279-4.

For the visiting side, youngster Fawad Alam struck 74 to boost the total in which Irfanuddin chipped in with 17 useful runs. Stephen John picked up 3-76 while Afaq Rahim and Ashar Zaidi snapped up two wickets each.
