LAHORE, Oct 23: A two-member delegation of the opposition is expected to call on Punjab Assembly Speaker Afzal Sahi on Monday (today) to discuss irritants which have created a gulf between the ruling party and the opposition, affecting the performance of the house.

The delegation will comprise PPP’s Rana Aftab Ahmed and PML-N’s Rana Sanaullah.

The two parties moved references against some of their erstwhile colleagues who have changed loyalties and joined hands with the ruling PML. They seek disqualification of what they call turncoats.

However, the speaker says the movers should first establish their locus standi before seeking disqualification of those who have switched loyalties. Their arguments in support of their credentials have failed to convince the speaker.

The speaker is not willing to forward the references to the chief election commissioner, who is the final authority to take decision on whether or not the alleged turncoats be disqualified.

As a result, the opposition is not cooperating with the speaker or the ruling party on the issue of business to be transacted in any session of the assembly. The opposition representatives boycotted the business advisory committee of the house which was supposed to decide the business for the current session.
