PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Institute of Cardiology (PIC) has started conducting open heart surgeries of children.

According to a statement issued here on Friday, a team of specialist doctors conducted open heart surgery on two minor girls and completed the procedures successfully.

PIC spokesperson Riffat Anjum said that one of the two girls had a hole in the heart, while the other one had a valve blocked. He said the doctors completed one of procedures in two hours, while the other took four hours to complete.

He claimed that PIC was the only hospital in the province where specialised facilities had been provided for the heart surgeries of children. He said that both the children were in stable condition.
