GUJRANWALA, Oct 23: Prayer leaders in remote areas have rejected the honorarium offer for the promotion of population welfare programme on loudspeakers in mosques.

The proposal was put forth by the Population Welfare Department, but prayer leaders termed it against Islam.

At a meeting held here on Sunday presided over by Maulana Qari Tanvirul Hasan, the participants said the government wanted to hire prayer leaders for the promotion of un-Islamic culture.

They said the government should abolish the department as it had no room in the Islamic society.

As a result, conductors Ismail, Noor Muzammil and helper Shahbaz Khan died instantly while driver Inayat received injuries. He was rushed to the Wazirabad THQ Hospital in critical condition.
