KARACHI, Oct 23: The Indus River Commission in its meeting, chaired by Sindh Irrigation and Power Minister Nadir Akmal Leghari, has approved Rs130 million for three irrigation schemes.

The schemes approved by the meeting were restoration and strengthening of MS Bund mile 43/0 to 44.2, restoration of stone apron and re-sectioning of Qadirpur Loop Bund and restoration of stone apron of J-Spur of Dadu-Moro Bridge.

The meeting discussed schemes of flood protective boards and flood reports of various circles of the department.

Addressing the meeting, the irrigation minister instructed the officials to execute flood protection activity properly in economical and transparent manner. He also gave instructions for equitable distribution of water.

Mr Leghari asked the officials to prepare disaster management plan and constituted a committee with provincial irrigation and power secretary as its chairman and Bashir Ahmed Dahar, Muhammad Idris Rajput and Sardar Ahmed Mughal as members. —PPI
