SAHIWAL: Over a dozen people attacked a police party, injured three policemen and freed an absconder they had arrested at Chak 30-EB, Rang Shah, on Saturday.

According to Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ramzan Shah, a team of Rang Shah police station conducted a raid on a house in the village and arrested an absconder wanted in a criminal case.

He said the team was returning after arresting the absconder when a group of 15-20 locals, including women, attacked the police van with clubs and pelted it with stones.

He said the attackers damaged the police van, snatched the mobile phone of a sub-inspectorand injured three policemen. The mob succeeded in freeing the arrested absconder from police custody, he added.

The injured policemen were admitted to the district headquarters hospital for treatment.

Rang Shah police have registered a case against 18 people for attacking the police team.
