THATTA, Oct 21: Ranjhan Mallah, a young fisherman was killed while two others, including an outlaw, sustained bullet wounds during an encounter between police and highwaymen on Mirpur Bathoro-Sujawal road near Dari Mori in early hours on Friday.

According to eye-witnesses, four armed highwaymen attempted to intercept a Karachi-bound passenger bus at a place between Ghari Sim and Dari Mori early on Friday morning.

Sensing danger, two constables of Sujawal police station, who had boarded the bus after night patrolling, asked the driver to speed up the vehicle.

The bandits opened fire on the bus and the policemen returned fire resulting in the death of Ranjhan, the fisherman, and injuries to a passenger identified as Munoo, son of Hashim Khudai, and a fleeing robber escorted by his colleagues who were trying to fire on bus passengers.

The passengers blocked Bathoro-Sujawal highway by putting the body on Dari Mori to register their protest against growing lawlessness.

BURNT: Goods worth hundreds of thousands of rupees were reduced to ashes when fire engulfed eight shops in a shopping centre at Ghorabari bus stand in Thatta town on Friday.

The fire was stated to be the result of short-circuit in one of the shop, spread in most part of the market.

Fire tenders were called in from Karachi to extinguish the fire.
