MANSEHRA: The Oghi tehsil administration on Sunday sealed 30 shops of non-essential items for defying the lockdown.

A team of TMA officials and policemen led by assistant commissioner Usman Ali took the action during visits to different bazaars. “We cannot allow anyone to challenge the writ of the government,” Mr Ali told reporters on the occasion.

The official said the precautionary measures ordered by the government were for the safety of the people.

Mr Ali said almost 90 per cent shops dealing in non-essential items remained closed in the city and its suburbs as the business community was largely extending cooperation to the administration in enforcing the Covid-19-induced SOPs.

The assistant commissioner also fined 12 fruit and vegetable vendors for violating the price list fixed by the local administration.

MAN KILLS BROTHER: A man killed his elder brother over a domestic issue in Shania Dodial area on Sunday.

The police said Mohammad Zahir exchanged harsh words with his elder brother, Mohammad Rafique, 28, and then stabbed him to death. He managed to flee.

The body was taken to the Civil Hospital Shinkiari. Later, it was handed over to family after completion of medico-legal formalities.

The Shinkiari police filed an FIR and started making raids at the possible hideouts to arrest the accused.

Also on Sunday, the police arrested two cattle thieves.

A police party led by SHO Oghi raided a house in Galli Badral area and arrested Mukhan Shah and Saqib Shah.

The police said the men had stolen goats, sheep and buffalos from the cattle pen of a local.

POLICE LAUDED: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief Dr Sanaullah Abbasi on Sunday gave away commendation certificates to the officers and policemen of Mansehra and Haripur districts for their good performance.

“You deserve to be honoured as you have traced and busted a robbers’ gang involved in a robbery in Balakot,” Dr Abbasi told a ceremony held at the police rest house on the occasion.

“If you will discharge your duty with utmost honesty and dedication you will dispense the marginalised segments of society with justice,” Dr Abbasi said.

The police chief gave away commendation certificates to district police officer Mansehra Asif Bahadur, ASP Nabeel Khokar, DSP Balakot Yaseen Janjua, SHO Balakot Mudassar Zia, Sub-Inspector Javaidur Rehman, head of district security Haripur, ASI Abdul Hameed, and personal assistant to DPO Haripur, Israr Ahmad.
