OKARA: The bailiff of the additional district and sessions judge court on Thursday recovered a handcuffed man from the lock-up of the CIA station.

Khalid Mahmood through counsel Rana Shakil Ahmed Sulehria filed a habeas corpus petition in the court of AD&SJ Muhammad Tariq Ayub claiming that the petitioner was unlawfully picked up from his house at Allahdad Colony by the CIA police team headed by DSP Mehr Muhammad Yousaf along with the CIA in-charge, police driver, constables Ijaz and Boota on Thursday night and locked up at the CIA police station.

After the petition the court appointed stenographer Basharat as bailiff who recovered Khalid Mahmood. The moharrar could not produce any criminal record or any FIR and he was produced in the AD&SJ court.

The court after recording the statement of Khalid Mahmood set him free and directed DPO Faisal Shahzad to initiate proceedings against the officials under the law.

FIRE: A fire erupted at the upper storey of commercial-cum-residential building on MA Jinnah Road.

The fire-extinguishing operation by Rescue 1122 was going on till last reports came in. Resident said the fire erupted in the warehouse of a private shoes company and engulfed the adjacent furniture and other rented places.
