QUETTA: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Balochistan, has initiated an inquiry against the deputy commissioner of Lasbela for illegally transferring government funds from the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) to a private bank in Karachi.

The Balochistan government had transferred Rs750 million into the official account of deputy commissioner of Lasbela in the NBP Uthal branch for payment of compensation for land acquired in district Lasbela.

However, the Lasbela district authorities transferred the money to a branch of Apna Bank in Karachi.

Finance Secretary Pasand Khan Buledi took notice of the transfer of government funds out of Balochistan and directed the authorities concerned to bring the money back to the NBP’s Uthal branch.

Sources in NAB said on Sunday that the anti-graft watchdog had summoned Apna Bank’s area manager Zafar Kasrani along with details of the account, a copy of the agreement and terms and conditions on which the funds were transferred to his bank.
