COLOMBO, Oct 20: Sri Lanka’s top batsman and former captain, Sanath Jayasuriya will be fit to play against India in the upcoming one-day series despite a freak accident he met with while playing water polo, cricket officials said Thursday.

Jayasuriya, who isrecovering from a dislocated shoulder, got himself slightly hurt during the water polo game in the beach resort town of Bentota earlier in the week.

“I can confirm such an accident has happened, but Sanath will be fit to play against India,” Sri Lanka cricket board spokesman, Ashoka Pathirana, said.

“We had some water sports in Bentota and unfortunately this accident happened,” Sri Lankan captain, Marvan Atapattu, was quoted by local media as saying. The team leaves for Bombay, India, later Thursday. The first one-day match will be played in central Indian city of Nagpur on Oct 25.—APP
