KARACHI: A man was shot dead in the presence of his family by armed robbers upon resistance in Surjani Town on Saturday morning, according to police.

Surjani SHO Farrukh Shaharyar said Aslam Qureshi, 52, was a father of seven, including four daughters. He said he had recently shifted to a rented house as he was constructing his home in the same neighbourhood.

He said at around 8.30am, four robbers riding two motorbikes arrived outside his house, where his two sons were cleaning their motorbike and the main door of the house was open.

The armed men held up both the brothers at gunpoint and their two other accomplices entered the house. On seeing the robbers, women in the house raised alarm, drawing the attention of their neighbour, Ashraf, who was standing on the rooftop of his home.

Ashraf saw the armed robbers and started throwing stones in a bid to force them to escape. The suspects resorted to firing, though the shots didn’t hit him. They also fired at Aslam, who was hit in the neck and died.

Kidnapped builder recovered from Jamshoro

A builder kidnapped from Karachi was recovered from Jamshoro by the Motorway police on Saturday.

A Motorway police spokesperson said that DSP Faraz Hashim Bhatti was informed by the Anti-Vehicles Lifting Cell of Karachi that builder Shahnawaz Ahmed was abducted along with his white double-cabin vehicle, which was at that time somewhere between Jamshoro and Petaro.

DSP Bhatti asked the Motorway police to stop the vehicle. After a while, a white double-cabin vehicle with no number plate was signalled, but the driver did not stop and drove off on a dirt road, left the vehicle and escaped.

The Motorway police found the abducted man in the vehicle. He told the police that he was abducted by four persons from Gulistan-i-Jauhar at gunpoint.

The vehicle was handed over to the Jamshoro police for further legal procedures. The Jamshoro police cordoned off the area and started searching for the kidnappers.

Senior officers appreciated the timely action of the Motorway police in the safe recovery of the kidnapped person and awarded appreciation certificates to the team that took part in the action.
