MUZAFFARGARH: Two policemen were killed and 26 inmates injured on Wednesday when a prison van overturned while negotiating a turn near Chowk Azam Dhori Adda.

The incident took place along Muzaffargarh and Layyah boundary, some 80-km away from the city.

The van was on its way to Layyah district from Muzaffargarh when it overturned while negotiating a turn. As a result two policemen Qaisar Abbas and Subhan died on the spot while 26 prisoners suffered injuries. Four of the injured were shifted to Nishtar Hospital, Multan, and others to Chowk Azam THQ Hospital. The police officials belonged to Muzaffargarh.

Muzaffargarh DPO Mohammad Hassan and Layyah DPO Nadeem Abbas visited the injured at hospital.

The DPO said the police officials, who died in the accident, are martyrs and the department would provide all facilities to their families.

The funeral prayers for the deceased policemen were offered at Civil Lines.
