The EU's medicines regulator has said it cannot rule out a link between the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine and a rare clotting disorder, despite insisting the vaccine is safe.

“During the investigation and review we began to see a small number of cases of rare and unusual but very serious clotting disorder,” European Medicines Agency chief Emer Cooke said, according to AFP.

“Based on the evidence available ... we still cannot rule out definitively a link between these cases and the vaccine,” she said, adding that the EMA recommended adding a warning to the vaccine's product information.
