SHANGLA: Two children died and several others were affected due to measles in Kamach union council of Martung tehsil as the health department sent a team to the area for vaccination of children on Tuesday.

The health department confirmed the sudden emergence of measles cases in Kharaw village, saying it had engaged a team of the Expanded Programme on Immunisation in the affected locality to vaccinate the children against the disease.

Ibadullah Khan, a resident of the hilly Kamach area, told Dawn that two children had died and four others were shifted to a hospital in Buner in critical condition.

He identified the victims as Suleman, 4, and one-year-old Hassan Mena. He said the number of measles cases was increasing.

Separately, labour and culture minister Shaukat Yousafzai on Tuesday directed the deputy commissioner and the district police officer to investigate the matter of innocent people being looted allegedly by a gang which is using his name for providing them jobs.

In a letter written to the DC and the DPO, the minister said whoever was involved in looting the common people in his name should be arrested and dealt with under the law.

Mr Yousafzai said he had been receiving complaints from the general public that some people were using his name to fleece them.
