SAHIWAL: The Rescue 1122 recovered the body and vehicle of a missing commission agent of the Arifwala grain market from the Pakpattan canal on Sunday afternoon.
The rescuers started a search operation near Chak 51/EB on the identification of the Farid Town police that the commission agent had been killed by his alleged kidnappers over a financial dispute. Police shifted the body to the Pakpattan DHQ Hospital for autopsy.
Muhammad Tariq, the proprietor of Gondal Commission Shop, was a resident of Chak Maloka Kalain and ran a business in the Arifwala grain market. His family said Tariq was constructing his house in a commercial housing colony in Sahiwal. On March 3, while returning to Arifwala in his car, he went missing. After failing to locate him, the family reported the matter to Sahiwal’s Farid Town police.
Police registered a first information report against unidentified persons. Later, they accessed his mobile phone data and arrested a suspect. The suspect, during investigation, confessed to killing Tariq and dumping his body along with his car in the Pakpattan canal.
On Sunday, police along with Rescue 1122 personnel found Tariq’s vehicle and body from the canal after a two-hour search.
The Farid Town station house officer told Dawn that the trader had been killed over an old rivalry. Police are further interrogating the arrested suspect.
TRAIN ACCIDENT: A man and his son were crushed under the Tezgam while crossing the railway track near Qadirabad station on Sunday noon.
Abdullah, 35, a resident of village 53/5-L, along with his 10-year-old son Mahtab tried to cross the Lahore-Khanewal track near Qadirabad on his motorcycle. While crossing, they were run over by the Tazgam coming from Lahore.
Rescue 1122 said they collected the duo’s remains and handed them over to their family.
