RAWALPINDI, Oct 13: Law-enforcement agencies on Thursday captured two members of the banned extremist group Jaish-i-Muhammad, in Rawalpindi and also seized two hand-grenades, official sources told Dawn.

A senior police official confirmed the arrest of the two, who are alleged to have been accomplices of Amjad Farooqi involved in high-profile cases.

The arrest of Syed Hameed-ud-din and Israr-ud-din, who belong to Peshawar, came about after a senior police official of the investigation wing was tipped off about their presence in Rawalpindi.

Upon this, security personnel held the two members of outlawed outfit near the Committee Chowk as they stood there waiting for transport.

No further details could be gathered.

Meanwhile, security forces have been put on high alert in Rawalpindi following reports that some elements might try to stage terrorist strike on Friday, sources said.

After a recent attack on worshippers belonging to the Ahmadi community in Mandi Bahauddin last Friday, security had been enhanced at places of worship as well as public and government buildings to ward off revenge attacks.
