SAHIWAL, Oct 13: Launching a campaign for the recovery of arms being illegally used, the district police arrested 105 people with unlicensed weapons till Thursday.
It is learnt that some policemen have been served with notices by the district police officer for their poor performance in the drive. The officials have reportedly made contacts with the local arm manufacturers and dealers to provide them weapons so that they can eschew any action.
NAZIM-ELECT: Sahiwal District Nazim Rai Hassan Nawaz Khan has commended the role of the Election Commission of Pakistan for holding transparent and fair elections.
He quoted the example of a candidate’s victory against ruling PML nominee Naveed Aslam Khan Lodhi, who is the son-in-law of Punjab Agriculture Minister Muhammad Arshad Khan Lodhi. The minister, he said, utilized all possible government resources to run the campaign of his son-in-law, but all his attempts were foiled.
He said the minister would soon be made accountable for abuse of government transport, rest houses and other resources. “Mr Lodhi has already done a great damage to the district and now he should divert his energies to the noble cause of contributing donations to the quake victims,” the nazim suggested.
Rai Hassan said his supporters were put behind bars after fake cases were registered against them under section 16 MPO.
RELIEF MEASURES: In pursuance of the orders of the provincial government and the IGP, various departments in Sahiwal are actively making contributions to the relief camps in one way or the other.
More and more injured are being brought to Sahiwal hospitals, which have made arrangements for emergency services.
The Sahiwal central jail has consigned 6,000 blankets to the affected areas. The district coordination officer has dispatched five truckloads of goods to the relief commissioner in Bagh.
Sahiwal tehsil nazim-elect Umar Ishaq on Thursday visited markets to collect donations from shopkeepers.
Meanwhile, traders and industrialists dispatched four truckloads to Bagh.
