HYDERABAD, Oct 13: An International Training Workshop on Patent System is being organized by the National Centre of Excellence in analytical chemistry, University of Sindh, on December 2 to 4 in Jamshoro.

In this connection a high-level meeting of the advisory council for the International Workshop was held here on Tuesday with the university vice-chancellor, Mr Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, in the chair.

The director of the centre, Dr M.I. Bhnaghar briefed the meeting about arrangements for the workshop.

Dr Bhanghar who is the chairman of the advisory council of workshop said that the workshop is the first of its kind in University of Sindh in which eminent foreign experts and scholars will take part.

He said the concept of patents and intellectual property right was very significant in research and development of any country.

The chairman of the council informed that the workshop was planned to foster research and development of technology for providing a forum to researchers and practitioners from relevant communities of Islamic countries to share their ideas, approaches, perspectives and experiences with one another.

The meeting discussed arrangements for the stay of foreign and local scholars during the workshop.

Scholars from Egypt, Tunisia, Jordan, Indonesia, Syria, Afghanistan, Sudan and Indonesia will be attending the workshop.

LUMHS: The director of the admissions, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Jamshoro has extended the date for submission of application form for MBBS and BDS for the session 2005-06 at the LUMHS and its affiliated colleges upto October 15.

He also extended the date of entry test for MBBS and BDS which will now be held on November 13.

ENGRO CHEMICAL: The media manager of the Engro Chemical, Mr Wajid Junejo, has said that the Engro Chemical was playing its due role in the development of the country and well being of the growers.

Talking to the official media here on Tuesday, he said that the Engro Chemical had come into being in 1965 and completed 40 years of its services aimed at strengthening national economy.

He said the purpose of celebrating the 40th anniversary was not only to examine, evaluate and assess its achievements but also to make the people aware of its future plans.

He said the Engro Chemical was formulating its future plan of action which would not only enhance capacity building of common farmer but also open new avenues of business in the country.

DEMO: A large number of residents of Goth Tando Bahawal, Hyderabad taluka, including women and children, staged a protest demonstration and sit-in outside the local press club on Tuesday against the alleged excesses of Husri police and an influential landlord.

Talking to newsmen, Rais Sher Khan Bhurgari and others said that Husri police, at the instance of a powerful wadera of Gopang clan, had raided their village last night and arrested several villagers.

They said that the Gopang wadera had purchased a piece of land near Tando Bahawal and he wanted to eject the villagers from Tando Bahawal Goth.
