I HAVE always wondered how and why naming things after people is akin to honouring them after they have passed away. In my opinion, we should not honour people by naming our airports, cities, societies, schemes and other projects after them. Instead, we should study their life and follow their work to honour them in practical terms.

And if naming something after some person is unavoidable, there should be some criteria before deciding to name a national asset after a person. Prominent persons should have some relevance to the national asset being named after them. The views of the masses in this regard should also be considered.
