KARACHI, Oct 13: Police picked up a man on Thursday for allegedly buying 12 truckloads of relief goods which were to be sent to the upcountry for the earthquake victims, police sources said.

The Jackson police picked up Abdul Khaliq from a vacant plot in Keamari where these goods were being dumped. Police investigation shows that Khaliq owns two shops in Juna Market and another in Keamari besides a warehouse. Khaliq told the police that he had purchased these trucks from individuals in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Hassan Square, Federal B Area, Quaidabad and other areas.

However, City police chief Tariq Jamil said four truckloads of goods had been seized from him. The suspect was a businessman, and the police were looking into the matter.

Abdul Khaliq had been kept in the police station and no case had been registered till late in the night.
