KARACHI: Karachi Port Trust (KPT) handled 739,493 tonnes of total cargo during the week (Feb 16-19) in which the share of import and export goods stood at 505,689 tonnes and 233,804 tonnes respectively.

In import category, the share of containerised cargo stood at 238,471 tonnes while a total of 118,026 tonnes of oil and liquid cargo was handled followed by 84,288 tonnes of wheat, 37,902 tonnes of bulk cargo and 27,002 tonnes of soyabean seed.

On export front, 173,288 tonnes of containerized cargo was handled followed by 51,840 tonnes of clinkers, 6,700 tonnes of oil and liquid cargo and 1,976 tonnes of bulk cargo.

A total of 29 ships took berth in the week while 27 ships were sailed.

At Port Qasim, a cargo volume of 738,872 tonnes comprising 503,479 tonnes of import and 175,393 tonnes of export cargo was handled (Feb 16-19) from Monday to Friday.

Import volumes included LNG, coal, palm oil, palm kernel, chemical, containerized cargo, motor gasoline and soyabean while export cargo included bitumen, bulk cargo and containerised cargo.
