GILGIT: The police on Friday foiled an attempt to smuggle weapons and ammunition to Diamer district.

They seized a large cache of arms and ammunition from a car at Thore checkpost in Chilas and arrested two men.

SP Diamer Sher Khan along with SDP Mohammad Shakir and SHO Faqeer Mohammad told reporters in Chilas that investigation into the smuggling bid was under way after the registration of a case and the information about it would be shared with the media afterward.

He said Diamer had been a peaceful district for the last five years.

The SP said the police had arrested 132wanted men last year and seven in the current one. He said many people were held over criminal and drug cases.
