Another college sealed after Covid-19 infections surface

ISLAMABAD: The District Health Office (DHO) on Wednesday sealed a college in G-9 after Covid-19 cases were detected in the institution.

It was the second educational institution in the capital to be closed in the last five days.

On Saturday, Islamabad Model School for Girls (IMCG) G-7/2 was sealed on Saturday while Islamabad Model College for Girls (IMCG) (VI-XII) G-9/2 was closed on the orders of District Health Officer Dr Zaeem Zia on Wednesday.

The order said following the detection of three Covid-19 cases in IMCG G-9/2, it was advised to immediately close down the campus till further intimation by the DHO.

It further said thorough disinfection should be carried out of the premises as per the guidelines issued by Ministry of National Health Services and tests of all exposed staff and students be conducted.

Pindi reports one death, 30 more patients

All close contacts of the cases must be quarantined for a period of 14 days, the order added.

Dr Zia said fluctuation was seen in the number of patients and positivity rate. On Feb 8, 60 cases were reported, followed by 86 on Feb 9, 108 on Feb 10, 91 on Feb 11, 122 on Feb 12, 112 on Feb 13, 77 on Feb 14, 98 on Feb 15, 120 on Feb 16 and 113 on Feb 17, he added.

Likewise, the positivity rate on Feb 8 was 1.4pc, followed by 2.41pc on Feb 9, 2.43pc on Feb 10, 1.91pc on Feb 11, 2.26pc on Feb 12, 2.21pc of Feb 13, 2.2pc on Feb 14, 2.6pc on Feb 15, 3.12pc on Feb 16 and 2.26pc on Feb 17, he added.The capital administration officials said during the last 24 hours, 4,995 tests were conducted out of which results of 59 females and 54 males came back positive.

As many as 22 cases were reported from Lohi Bher, 11 from Rawat, 10 from I-8, nine from F-7, eight from Bhara Kahu, six from Chak Shahzad, five from G-11, four from F-15, three each from Tarlai and G-5, two each from I-10, F-11, G-10, G-7, G-8, F-8, F-10, Kurri and Koral, one each from G-13, Khanna, G-6, G-9, Sohan, Alipur, Sihala, G-14, B-17 and F-17.

Rawalpindi

A patient died of Covid-19 and 30 more patients contracted the virus in the district on Wednesday as another 10 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering.

Syed Wajahat, 49, a resident of Mohallah Azizabad, was brought to Holy Family Hospital on Feb 14 but he died on Wednesday.

In Rawalpindi, 18 new patients arrived in the city hospitals from Rawalpindi, three from Gujar Khan, two from Kotli Sattian, one from Kahuta, two patients from Islamabad, three from Azad Jammu and Kashmir and one from Haripur.

At present there are 231 active patients in the district out of whom 68 are in hospitals and 163 patients have been home isolated. As many as 439 patients are waiting for their Covid-19 serology results.

A total of 86 patients are admitted to hospitals with 15 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital, 22 patients in Fauji Foundation Hospital, eight in Holy Family Hospital, two in Hearts International Hospital and 21 in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology.

Commissioner retired Capt Mohammad Mehmood told Dawn that nine patients were on ventilator and 27 required oxygen assistance.He said 752 people have died in Rawalpindi Division in the last 11 months out of whom 617 lost their lives in Rawalpindi, 27 in Attock, 39 in Jhelum and 69 in Chakwal.

Attock

After emergence of eight positive cases in Attock during the last 24 hours, the total number of patients in the district has risen to 1,270.

District Health Authority Chief Executive Dr Jawad Elahi said five new cases belonged to Hazro while three were from Attock city. He said there were 60 active cases in the district while the number of suspected patients had increased to 25,477. — Additional reporting by Amjad Iqbal
