Economic potential

Published

THIS is with reference to Dawn’s special supplement ‘Vision of Balochistan 2021’ (Jan 15) which provided a fresh insight into the potential Pakistan’s largest province holds for economic development. Sadly, the province has long been neglected to meet the interests of the elite and the corrupt. Apparently, the present government seems committed to the development and progress of Balochistan.

The prime minister has vowed that more funds would be allocated to the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the province. He has also announced a special development package for southern Balochistan. One hopes that these promises translate into reality.

There are numerous opportunities for investment in Balochistan in the fields of mining, construction, energy, tourism, industry and infrastructure. It is heartening that the provincial government has recently launched the first-ever investment policy offering various incentives to attract domestic and foreign investors.
