TAXILA: With the onset of the dengue breeding season, the Hazro administration has started taking measures to eradicate dengue larvae from hotspots in commercial areas.

Successive years witnessed dozens of casualties and infections among residents of the area. Teams have been constituted to monitor dengue larvae breeding in the city.

“We have taken this initiative on the orders of the provincial government to prevent the spread of the deadly mosquito-borne virus in the town,” said Assistant Commissioner Shagufta Jabeen, adding that workers of the municipal committee will throw chemicals in stagnant water across village and neighbourhood councils to kill the larvae.

“We expect fewer dengue cases in the town this year compared to previous years due to this campaign. The local administration is vigilant and all possible measures will be taken to check dengue larvae and mosquito breeding spots.

“Tyre shops are the first preference because many notices were issued to their owners but they did not care for these notices, therefore the administration was left with no option but to impose fines on them.

“Special attention would be paid to indoor and outdoor surveillance and teams should be available in the field. All areas were sterilised to root out coronavirus and likely threats of dengue and malaria from different places,” she added.
