Jewish body makes quake appeal

Published October 12, 2005

NEW YORK, Oct 11: The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) on Tuesday asked the Jewish community to donate generously to aid survivors of the earthquake.

The JDC, which collects funds from the North American Jewish Community, said the money received in the mailbox established for earthquake victims will be donated to support relief efforts.

“We don’t yet know the full extent of the devastation in Pakistan, India and Afghanistan, but we know it is massive,” said Steven Schwager, JDC’s executive vice president. “JDC is proud to serve as the central address through which North American Jews can deliver quick and impactful assistance when disasters like this strike overseas.”
