CHARSADDA: The 58th National Badminton Championship 2021 kicked off at the Abdul Wali Khan Sports Complex here on Tuesday.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa secretary sports, tourism and culture Abid Majeed inaugurated the competitions which will continue till Feb 7. Over 400 male and female players from all the four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, Islamabad, Pak Army, Wapda, KRL, the police, SNGPL, Pakistan Railways, the Higher Education Commission and National Bank of Pakistan are participating.

Talking to mediapersons, Abid Majeed said different types of tournaments were being held in KP thanks to better law and order situation.

He said Chief Minister Mahmood Khan had announced Rs100,000 for the winners and Rs50,000 for the runners-up of different categories of the junior badminton championship.

He said international boxing competitions would also be organised at the Abdul Wali Khan Sports Complex in November. He said such events would not only encourage players but also promote healthy activities in the province.

District sports officer Tahseenullah and Pakistan Badminton Association’s general secretary Wajid Chaudhry were also present.
