LAKKI MARWAT: A committee comprising elders from 22 villages of Lakki Marwat has decided to take up the issues of electricity outages, lawlessness, poor road infrastructure and faulty tube wells with the district administration to pave the way for their early resolution.

The decision was made at the committee meeting held in Langerkhel Hindal village here on Sunday. The committee president, Hamayun Khan Marwat, chaired the meeting.

The elders highlighted the problems being faced by the people of their respective rural localities. They said that MPs from the district were not interested in addressing the problems of the rural population in water supply, communication, health and other sectors.

Form committee to raise their issues

Former nazim Rozi Khan, Ashraf Khan, Naqeebullah Khan, Musa Khan, Akhtar Khan, Shafiqur Rehman and others spoke on the occasion. An elder said that poor law and order situation could be judged from the fact that innocent people were being killed in firing incidents in the urban locality.

The participants said the police should launch a crackdown on anti-social elements and drug traffickers to save youth from the menace. They said that curbing electricity theft and kunda (hook) culture was the responsibility of Pesco, district administration and police and demanded action against power thieves. They said the government should ensure presence of doctors on duty in the public sector hospitals.

The elders said that tube wells in many rural localities were nonfunctional since long, causing acute shortage of drinking water, while rural roads were in bad shape and no one was paying heed to resolution of their problems.
