TAXILA: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has given approval to shift Taxila judicial complex to Sangjani to facilitate litigants and the legal fraternity as lack of space was creating problems for them.

A directive issued by LHC registrar to senior member of the Board of Revenue (BoR) Lahore has instructed that 142 kanals in Mauza Chokkar, which is property of the Punjab government, be transferred to the judiciary for construction of judicial complex for Taxila Sub Division.

According to newly-elected Taxila Bar Association President Advocate Syed Iqrar Shah, LHC Chief Justice Qasim Ali Khan during his visit to the bar on Dec 18, 2020 approved shifting of the judicial complex in the best interest of the public. Courts, chambers and residences of judicial officers will be established in the new complex, he said.

Mr Shah said litigants and bar members were facing severe problems as there was no space to establish chambers for new lawyers joining the bar. Taxila bar is the only bar in the district which has chambers for lawyers and does not have shed and table system, he added.

Besides, he said, there was no space for parking inside the complex because of which lawyers have to park their cars outside its premises. This results in traffic congestion on the main road.

He appreciated the role of the association’s outgoing president, Malik Sajjad Hussain, and said it was because of his efforts that LHC gave approval for transfer of the judicial complex.
