GUJRANWALA: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has allotted symbols to the candidates taking part in the PP-51 bye-election.

Four candidates have been allotted their party symbols while seven others are taking part in the bye-election as independent candidates.

PML-N’s Begum Talaat Shaukat has been allotted the symbol of lion, PTI candidate Chaudhry Muhammad Yousaf gets bat, Jamaat-i-Islami candidate Nasir Mehmood Klair gets a pair of scales and Tehreek-i- Labaik Pakistan candidate Sufi Nasir Saifi has been allotted crane symbol.

Ejaz Samman, the PPP candidate, had earlier withdrawn his nomination papers in favour of the PML-N candidate on the directions of the party leaders.

MURDER CASE: Police claimed on Friday to have solved the mystery of murder of five people by arresting the head of the family.

Fauzia and her four children Sania, Tania, Tabish and Abdul Hadi were found murdered at a house at Dogranwala village. Police arrested Imran, the husband of the slain woman, on suspicion and he confessed to his crime and told police that he killed his wife in the name of honour by hitting her head with bricks. He said his children saw the incident and he killed them one by one.

Police registered a case against the suspect and handed over the bodies to the family of the slain woman.

ARREST: The ACE on Friday arrested two recordkeepers of the land registration branch on the allegation of preparing fake land documents and committing fraud.

ACE Director Rai Naeemullah Bhatti told reporters that people filed applications alleging that recordkeepers Ziaur Rehman and Saleem prepared fake power of attorney documents and deprived them of their land. Both the officials were found guilty in an inquiry.
