KARACHI: Bounce Club and Omega Club beat their respective rivals to enter the final of the 4th Commissioner Cup basketball tournament here on Saturday at the Arambagh-Abdul Nasir courts.

In the first semifinal, Bounce Club beat Mumbas Squad 54-51 after a thrilling contest. Zia Ahmed (22 pts) was unstoppable on the court for the winners. He was well assisted by Mohsin Riaz (11 pts) and Syed Mubashir (10 pts).

For the losing side, the main scorers were Saad Khan (19 pts) and Kenneth Johnson (16 pts).

In the second semifinal, Omega Club beat Nishter Club 55-50 to avenge its defeat in the league round. For the winners, Taimur Zaheer dazzled with 19 points and was well assisted by Abbas Abid (13 pts).

For the losing side, prolific Ali Chanzeb scored 19 points while Asad Ali scored 12 points.

SSP South Zubair Nazeer Shaikh was the chief guest on the occasion and lauded the high standard of the game in the semifinals. He announced that in February, DMC South will hold the Shohada-e-Police Basketball tournament on the request of KBBA president Ghulam Mohammad.

He praised the Department of Police for producing great players in all the sports and said that he has been instructed by Additional IG Ghulam Nabi Memon to work for the welfare of sportsmen in the city.

Also present on the occasion were PTF vice president Khalid Shamsi, POA media coordinator Asif Azeem, NBP’s Azmatullah, international player Sher Khan and others.
