RAWALPINDI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) of Rawalpindi on Saturday sentenced a man 10 years imprisonment for firing police officials which resulted in the injury of one constable.

ATC Judge Shaukat Kamal Dar convicted the accused Ayyaz Khan for attacking the police team while they were capturing drug peddlers in the vicinity of Ganjmandi police station of Rawalpindi.

According to Tahir Kazmi, deputy prosecutor general, the police team on Nov7, 2018 intercepted and arrested two drug peddlers, Riaz alias Lacha and Siraj alias Raju, and recovered over 3kg hashish from their possession.

As per the FIR registered in this case, both the accused were armed and they tried to escape when they were intercepted by the police. The police officials, however, caught them and recovered pistols and drugs from their possession.

However, Ayyaz Khan arrived at the spot all of a sudden and started indiscriminate firing on police team resulting injury to constables Aftab Khan, Rashid Mehmood and a co-accused Liaqat Ali.
