RAWALPINDI, Oct 7: Highway robbers made away with over Rs1.5 million and two cars in three separate incidents in Islamabad on Thursday, police said.

Tashfeen Azam, one of the robbery victims, complained to the Shahzad Town police that he along with Haji Muhammad Tariq, Mr Sajjad and Waheed Akhtar was coming from Rawalpindi in a car (IDK-6957) when he found the road blocked with stones near Kirpa village.

As he stopped his car, a gang of armed robbers surrounded the vehicle. The robbers dragged them out of the car and tied them up. Later, they snatched their mobile phones, wrist watches and Rs1.5 million and also took the car with them.

In another incident, three robbers carrying pistols and daggers intercepted a motorcyclist, Adnan Rashid in F-6/1 and deprived him of Rs55,000 in cash, ATM cards and gold rings.

Asif Ali Shah, complained to the I-9 police that he had parked his Suzuki car outside his friend’s house in I-8/4, but when he came out he found the car stolen.

Meanwhile, the driver of State Minister for Tourism Sumaira Malik was killed, while her official guard received injuries when their car overturned in F-8/3 on Friday, police said.

Azhar Mehmood, the car driver, and a police guard of the state minister were going to F-8/3 in a car (IDF-2912) when it overturned and crashed into the footpath, killing the driver on the spot and injuring the guard. Luckily, the minister was not travelling in the car.
