RAWALPINDI: Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Zaheer Anwar Jappa on Friday said arrangements for the Rawalpindi marathon, being held on Jan 10, had been finalisd in which blind athletes would also participate.

He said the Rawalpindi Marathon, organised by the Sports Department, would be held in three categories of 16 and 6 km.

He was while presiding over a meeting to review arrangements for marathon.

The meeting was attended by District Sports Officer Rawalpindi Shams Tauheed, Traffic Police, Rescue 1122 and officials concerned of health department.

Mr Jappa said professional athletes would participate in the first category of 16 km long which would start from T-Chowk Rawat and end at Sports Complex Liaquat Bagh while the second and third category would be six km long from Morgah to Liaquat Bagh in which under 16 and blind people will participate.

He said the participants will be given certificates of appreciation while the first, second and third place winners in the 16km category will be given prizes of Rs30,000, Rs20,000 and Rs10,000 respectively.

There will be a reward of Rs5,000 per person from fourth to tenth position, and Rs3,000 per person from 11th to 20th position.

He said the first, second and third position in the category of under-16 and blind people will get Rs10,000, Rs7,000 and Rs5,000 respectively while the fourth to 10th position will get Rs3,000 each.
