KARACHI: Ayaan Yousuf and Wania Bhagat scored fine victories over their rivals in the under-18 category on the opening day of the 9th Essa Lab National Seniors & Juniors Tennis here at the Modern Club tennis courts on Friday.

Prof. Dr. Farhan Essa, Governor Rotary Club Sindh Baluchistan was the chief guest at the opening ceremony and emphasised the need of healthy sports activities in the country.

STA vice president Khalid Rehmani while thanking Modern Club and Dr Essa informed that for the first time ever beach tennis events are included in this tournament and will be held at Clifton Beach on Sunday morning.

Pakistan number one tennis player Aqeel Khan, Uzma Shahid, Erum Bukhari, Sarwar Hussain and others were also present on the occasion.

First round results:

Boys’ under-18 singles: Ayaan Yousuf bt Mussadiq Bhatti 6-0, 6-0; Kashan Tariq bt Usman Khan 6-3, 7-5; Farzan Ahmed bt Ali Hasan 6-1, 6-2; M. Idrees bt Kirtan Mukash 7-6, 7-5; Mohammad Ibrahim bt Suhail 6-0, 6-1.

Girls’ under-18 singles: Wania Bhagat bt Tehreem Yousuf 7-5, 6-2.

Boys’ under-14 singles: Mohammad Usman bt Shehzar Ali 5-3, 4-2; Abdullah Razaq bt Danish 2-4, 4-0, 5-3; Bilal Chapra bt Nibras Malik 5-3, 4-2; Aliyan Umer bt Zohaib Shahzad 4-1, 4-2.

Boys’ under-10 singles: Meer Abbas bt Maaz Ebad 4-0, 4-1; Moosa Raza bt Menal Ebad 4-2, 4-1; Ibrahim Saad bt Rohan Das 4-1, 4-1.
