NAWABSHAH, Oct 6: The irrigation department will close the Gujrah canal from October 11 for desilting. The closure of the canal in Ramazan will create serious problems for residents of Nawabshah as it is the main source of water supply to the city.

The residents demanded that the canal be closed after Eid to avoid water shortage in the holy month. The executive engineer of the Nusrat irrigation division said the canal would remain closed from October 11 to October 31 for desilting.

He said the decision had been taken on demand of tail-end growers of the Chhan Babu distributary, Jheemal minor, Dhoro Naro and Khiyaroon minor.
